Federal Agencies Launch Public Portal to Bring Health Care Costs Back into Orbit

  • The FTC, U.S. DOJ, and HHS have launched an online portal for the public to report potentially unfair and anticompetitive health care practices to the FTC and the Antitrust Division of the DOJ.
  • Complaints submitted to the online portal, HealthyCompetition.gov, will be reviewed by FTC staff and the Antitrust Division of the DOJ; complaints determined to raise sufficient antitrust concerns or relating to HHS authorities will be referred for further investigation. Formal investigations may follow.
  • The online portal is part of the Biden administration’s initiative to lower health care and prescription drug costs and create more competitive health care markets.
  • We have covered other recent FTC actions to protect competition in health care, including two settlements in 2023 seeking to prevent monopolistic conduct in the prescriptions and anesthesiology.
