Spotlight: Delaware AG Kathy Jennings

Professional Background: AG Jennings was elected Delaware AG in 2018. The top issues she campaigned on included addressing the opioid epidemic, reducing the recidivism rate, and expanding access to mental health and addiction resources. She has a staff of over 450, and has served on the boards of the Delaware Center for Justice, the Wilmington HOPE Commission, and Justin’s Beach House.

Prior to her election, AG Jennings served as Chief Administrative Officer of New Castle County. During part of her tenure as Chief Administrative Officer, she also served concurrently as the New Castle County Public Safety Director. AG Jennings has also served as the State Prosecutor and as Chief Deputy Attorney General in the Delaware Department of Justice, where she began her legal career as an attorney in the Criminal Division. AG Jennings previously worked in private practice.

Education: University of Delaware & Villanova University Law School

Personal: Born and raised in Wilmington by her mother and grandparents. AG Jennings’ mother became the first college graduate of the family by earning her nursing degree when the AG was a young child. AG Jennings  has two adult children, a son and a daughter.
