Spotlight: Missouri AG Eric Schmitt

Areas of focus since taking office have included:

  1. Tackling the opioid epidemic by starting the Real Opioid Pain initiative to hear from Missouri citizens who have been impacted by the crisis.
  2. Launching the SAFE Kit initiative to help bring justice to the victims of sexual assault.
  3. Launching Safer Streets Initiative in collaboration with the U.S Attorney’s Office to reduce violent crime rates across the state.

Professional background: Eric Schmitt, a sixth generation Missourian, was appointed to succeed former AG Josh Hawley, who was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2018. AG Schmitt was reelected in 2020. Prior to his appointment, AG Schmitt served as Missouri State Treasurer from 2017-2019. He was a member of the Missouri Senate from 2009-2017 and also served as an Alderman for the City of Glendale, Missouri. AG Schmitt is running for U.S. Senate in 2022.

Education: AG Schmitt received his bachelors from Truman State University, where he founded a Habitat for Humanity chapter. He received his J.D. from Saint Louis University and served as an editor of the Law Review.

Personal: AG Schmitt and his wife, Jaime, have three children.
