Spotlight: Washington Attorney General Nick Brown

Professional background: The first man of color to be elected attorney general in Washington, Nick Brown is a former JAG Officer who earned the Bronze Star medal in 2005 for his service in Iraq. Most recently, he served as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington where he worked fighting drug cartels and sex trafficking, addressing the fentanyl crisis, and reducing violent crime. From 2007 to 2013, AG Brown was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington, and from 2013 to 2017, he was general counsel to Governor Jay Inslee.

Key priorities for his first term include:

  • Ensuring safety for all Washingtonians
  • Addressing gun violence, protecting democracy, combating climate change
  • Defending abortion access in Washington

Education:  AG Brown received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehouse College in 1999 and his J.D. from Harvard University in 2002.

Personal: AG Brown lives in Seattle with his wife and their two children.
