Professional background: Prior to being elected AG in 2024, Derek Brown served as chairman of the of the Utah Republican Party and practiced law with two large law firms. He is a former member of the Utah House of Representatives, where he served on the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee and the House Judiciary Committee. He advocated for cutting taxes, supporting law enforcement, and reducing government regulations. AG Brown left the legislature to become Senator Mike Lee’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Utah State Director. He also clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Education: AG Brown earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief of the Pepperdine Law Review.
Personal: AG Brown and his wife, Emilie, are both accomplished musicians. They met through music, he on the piano and Emilie singing. When not working, they are at home around the piano with their four children.
