Physicians Group Services Fined by DOJ, Florida AG and HHS for Alleged False Urine Test Claims

  • Physicians Group Services, P.A. (PGS) has reached a settlement with the U.S. and Florida to resolve allegations that it submitted false or fraudulent claims to the Florida Medicaid Program. The allegations arose from a coordinated investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, the federal Department of Health and Human Services, and Florida AG Ashley Moody’s office.
  • According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, the investigation focused on urine drug testing (UDT) by PGS, which is used to determine if a pain management patient is taking prescribed or non-prescribed drugs, or is combining prescribed drugs with other substances, such as alcohol. PGS is alleged to have submitted claims to the Florida Medicaid Program for medically unnecessary UDT which was not tailored to the specific needs of the patient.
  • Under the terms of the settlement, PGS will pay $700,000 to settle the state and federal allegations against it.
