Cori Mills was appointed by Governor Mike Dunleavy as Acting Attorney General of Alaska in May 2026, when former AG-appointee Stephen Cox failed confirmation. Acting AG Mills has worked for the Department of Law since 2012, holding a range of roles including legislative liaison and public outreach coordinator, elections attorney, and supervisor of the Labor & State Affairs Section. Since 2021 she has served as deputy attorney general, where she helped oversee the department’s civil and legal operations and advised state agencies on significant policy, regulatory, and litigation matters. Acting AG Mill began her legal career in California where she practiced land use and environmental law for four years in private practice.
State AGs are elected in 43 states and D.C. In Alaska, the governor appoints the AG.
