Texas AG Paxton Launches Investigation into TriWest Health Insurance Claim Denials

  • Texas AG Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into TRICARE Insurance’s TriWest Healthcare Alliance Corp. (TriWest), a private company contracted by the U.S. government to administer health care programs for military members, veterans, and their families, manages the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Care Network, and serves as the support contractor for the Defense Health Agency’s TRICARE West Region, following allegations that the company wrongfully denied health care claims.
  • Complaints submitted to the Office of the AG allege that TriWest has repeatedly and incorrectly denied numerous healthcare claims based on false determinations that the insured had other health insurance coverage.
  • AG Paxton’s office has issued Civil Investigative Demands to the company as part of the investigation and plans to conduct interviews with consumers and employees of the company. The investigation seeks to determine whether TriWest’s alleged practices violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
