Background: John Hoffman is the Acting Attorney General having been appointed by Governor Chris Christie after the Governor appointed former AG Jeffrey Chiesa to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the late Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ). AG Hoffman previously served as New Jersey’s Executive Assistant Attorney General under former AG Chiesa. Before he worked in the AG Office, AG Hoffman served as Director of the Division of Investigations for the State Comptroller’s Office and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney where he focused on economic and white collar criminal prosecutions. He also worked as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice and in private practice. Following law school, AG Hoffman served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow on the Faculty of Law at the University of Tokyo in Japan. He also clerked for Judge Engle on the 6th Circuit.
