AG Pressure Ignites Action as Shopify Snuffs Out Vapes

  • Shopify has announced this week it will ban all e-cigarettes (vapes) from its platforms. This decision comes after pressure in November 2025 from a multistate group of state AGs aiming to tackle illegal electronic cigarette sales online.
  • Since last year, the bipartisan coalition of AGs have been urging Shopify to do more to tackle the market for vapes that lack the legally required license for U.S. sales or violate other laws. The Shopify ban would be most significant win for the anti-vape coalition yet, and will apply to all vapes regardless of whether they have required FDA authorization. It is still unclear if the ban will apply beyond the U.S.
  • Additionally, in April, the coalition urged major card networks or payment processors to take stronger action to prevent their networks from being used to facilitate illegal vape sales.
