AG Jackley Reaches $15 Million Settlement with Roblox

  • South Dakota AG Jackley has announced a $15 Million settlement with Roblox, an immersive gaming platform.
  • The proceeds of the settlement will fund South Dakotas Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, a PSA campaign on online child safety, the South Dakota Department of Education (governmental and nonprofit after-school programs), and South Dakota Attorney Generals Consumer Protection Fund. South Dakota could also receive another $5.4 million in damages if Roblox fails to meet any of the agreement provisions.
  • The agreement requires Roblox to underwrite a two-year multi-media PSA campaign valued at $1 million. The campaign will focus on online child safety including specific references interacting with Roblox safely. Additionally, Roblox will require users to undergo age verification to ensure children have access only to age-appropriate content on the platform.
  • This is merely the latest AG action involving Roblox and its alleged activities with respect to children, including previously reported actions involving Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Connecticut, Indiana, Alabama, Nevada, West Virgina, Texas, Nebraska, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi and Louisiana.
