- Connecticut AG William Tong has announced the passage of House Bill No. 7181, which will provide new civil and criminal tools and incentives to state regulators and law enforcement to pursue actions against illegal cannabis and e-cigarette sales.
- The law expands Connecticut’s existing ban on online sales of traditional tobacco cigarettes to cover e-cigarettes; closes a loophole in the state’s e-cigarette age verification law; establishes a state-wide cannabis and hemp enforcement task force; and incentivizes municipal enforcement by enabling municipalities to retain certain civil penalties, among other things.
- We have previously reported on other efforts by AGs to curb illegal e-cigarette and cannabis sales, including a letter sent by 29 Republican AGs to federal officials; Minnesota AG Keith Ellison’s settlement with an e-cigarette company; coordinated efforts by a bipartisan group of 10 AGs related to flavored e-cigarettes; and New York AG Letitia James’ lawsuit against 13 e-cigarette companies and judgment against an unlicensed cannabis retailer.
