- Nebraska AG Mike Hilgers sued Lorex Corporation and Lorex Technology Inc. (collectively, “Lorex”), alleging that Lorex misled consumers about the safety of their home security cameras in violation of state consumer protection laws.
- According to the complaint, Lorex marketed its products as private and secure while concealing ongoing ties to its former owner, Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co., Ltd. (Dahua), a Chinese company that the U.S. has sanctioned for national security risks and human rights violations, and also using Dahua’s parts and thereby creating vulnerabilities that could allow unauthorized access to consumers’ live video feeds, recordings, and audio.
- The lawsuit seeks injunctive relief, civil penalties, disgorgement, restitution, and attorneys’ fees and costs, among other relief.
- We previously reported on Florida AG James Uthmeier’s investigation of Lorex over alleged national security and consumer protection concerns, as well as other AG enforcement efforts related to concerns over companies’ alleged ties to China.
