- The FTC announced a sweep of new actions targeting companies alleged to have falsely claimed that their products are “Made in the USA” in violation of the FTC Act and the FTC’s Made in USA (MUSA) Labeling Rule.
- The FTC’s complaints against the three companies—TouchTunes, Americana Liberty, and Oak Street—allege that the companies’ products were manufactured outside of the United States in whole or in part, but were marketed with deliberately misleading labels, such as “100% Made in the USA.” The FTC alleges that this conduct constitutes an unfair or deceptive practice in violation of the FTC act and the MUSA Labeling Rule, which makes it an unfair or deceptive practice to misrepresent foreign products as “Made in the USA.”
- In their lawsuits against the three companies, the FTC seeks injunctive relief and consumer redress, among other relief.
- We have previously reported on the FTC’s earlier adoption of its MUSA Labeling Rule.
