AG James Secures $1.875 Million in Deal with Dollar General

  • New York AG Letitia James secured a settlement with DolGen New York, LLC and Dollar General Corporation after an investigation found that stores routinely charged customers more than advertised or posted prices. The company will donate $1.875 million in food and personal products to Foodlink, a Rochester-based nonprofit.
  • An investigation done by the AG’s office reviewed more than 900 state inspection reports from 2021 to 2023 and found that 43% documented pricing accuracy failures exceeding the state’s 2% threshold. In a separate investigation at 11 stores, officials found that approximately 14% of purchased items were priced higher at checkout than advertised.
  • Under the settlement, Dollar General must honor the lowest listed price, improve receipt clarity, train employees on pricing accuracy, post consumer notices, and implement regular internal and independent pricing audits. The company must also address pricing discrepancies identified through inspections or audits within 24 hours.
