- West Virginia AG Patrick Morrisey has reportedly reached a settlement with California attorney Thomas Moore to resolve allegations that his legal corporation, Moore Legal Center, violated West Virginia’s Consumer Credit and Protection Act.
- The complaint, which was filed in March 2020, alleged that Moore Legal Center advertised that it could settle consumer debt for less than the amount owed, yet frequently failed to settle any debts for more than 200 West Virginia customers from whom he collected hundreds or thousands of dollars in fees.
- Under the terms of the settlement, Moore will pay $500,000 to the state of West Virginia, and will be barred from any future debt settlement activities in the state.
