Legal Aid Funding Draws Bipartisan Support from AGs

  • A coalition of 40 bipartisan AGs sent a letter to U.S. Senate and House Leaders urging them to allocate continued funding for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), which provides civil legal services to low income and vulnerable individuals.
  • In the letter, the AGs urge Congress to continue LSC’s funding as part of the Fiscal Year 2026 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill.
  • The AGs argue that the LSC, which funds a network of independent legal aid offices in all 50 states and U.S. territories, provides critical civil legal services to underserved populations, including helping veterans secure benefits, assisting domestic violence survivors seeking safety, supporting disaster victims, and protecting seniors from scams.
