In for a Dime, in for a Dollar (or Maybe Two?)

  • Missouri AG Andrew Bailey filed a lawsuit against Dolgencorp, LLC, which does business as Dollar General, alleging the retailer violated the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act (MMPA) by routinely deceiving consumers about the prices they pay for items.
  • According to the complaint, the prices charged at the point of sale in Dollar General stores in Missouri are frequently higher than the prices that are listed on the shelf. AG Bailey alleges that a statewide investigation showed price discrepancies in 92 of 147 stores, with an average overcharge of $2.71 per item.
  • The lawsuit seeks civil penalties for $1,000 for each violation of the MMPA, preliminary and permanent injunctions prohibiting Dollar General from engaging in price discrepancies, restitution, disgorgement, and further relief.
