New York, New Jersey AGs Blow Whistle on FIFA Ticketing

  • New York AG Letitia James and New Jersey AG Jennifer Davenport subpoenaed FIFA as part of an investigation into ticketing practices for the 2026 World Cup.
  • According to the AGs, the investigation stems from reports that fans were misled about seat locations after FIFA introduced new “Front Categories” for premium seats following initial ticket sales, allegedly leaving some early buyers with less desirable seats than they expected.
  • The investigation will also examine FIFA’s use of “variable pricing,” ticket-release schedule, public statements, and other conduct that may have contributed to price increases, with the AGs citing reports that FIFA raised prices for more than 90 of 104 matches between October 2025 and April 2026.
  • The subpoenas follow similar action in California, where, as previously reported, AG Rob Bonta recently sent FIFA a letter seeking information about similar concerns.
