- Texas AG Ken Paxton has secured a landmark agreed temporary injunction against Discord that requires the company to give Texas children the same age-assurance and default safety precautions it already provides to its users in the United Kingdom. Currently in Texas, anyone can open a Discord account with just an email address and a self-reported birthday.
- Texas filed this lawsuit on May 22, 2026, and secured a TRO against Discord. Now, Texas has secured an Agreed Temporary Injunction extending age assurance and default settings protections to Texas children immediately. Discord has 90 days to implement these safety features for every Texas user.
- Under the court order, Discord must route messages from strangers into a separate request inbox, block sensitive content for Texas teens and lock the setting unless it confirms the user is an adult, and close adult-only spaces to anyone it has not age-assured. Discord must also report its progress to the Office of the AG every 30 days. The case is now proceeding to trial where Texas prepares to seek civil penalties under the DTPA.
- Other states have challenged Discord in the past including New Jersey, Indiana, South Dakota, Florida, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
