- A group of 49 AGs filed a lawsuit against Michael D. Lansky, L.L.C., dba Avid Telecom, and two affiliated individuals, for allegedly violating the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, and state consumer protection laws by initiating and facilitating 7.5 billion illegal robocalls to individuals on the Do Not Call Registry between December 2018 and January 2023.
- According to the complaint, the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service provider allegedly facilitated illegal robocalls around the county using fake phone numbers, including scam calls that appeared to be coming from government and law enforcement agencies. Avid Telecom allegedly ignored hundreds of “traceback” notifications that it received warning that it was facilitating the transmittal of illegal robocalls.
- We previously covered the recent implementation of an FTC effort to tamp down on illegal robocalls by targeting VoIP service providers, Project Point of No Entry.
