Four AGs Partner with FCC to Tackle Privacy and Data Protection Issues

  • The AGs of Connecticut, Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with the FCC to share expertise and resources to enforce federal and state privacy laws and regulations.
  • The agreements will allow the FCC and state investigators to coordinate efforts when building cases against possible bad actors and otherwise taking enforcement action in relation to privacy, data protection, or cybersecurity issues.
  • Illinois AG Kwame Raoul noted that similar state and federal partnerships have allowed for successful collaboration on enforcement actions against perpetrators of illegal robocalls, and FCC Enforcement Bureau Chief Loyaan A. Egal stated that the MOUs would allow the states and the FCC to maximize efforts to address the mishandling of sensitive data and threats by cybercriminals and foreign adversaries.
